Concept
ZineGeist is not a zine fair, but rather a gallery-based display of zines and artist books. ZineGeist is for people to read and appreciate zines and for zine-makers to sell and trade their work.
Zines and books will be displayed on shelves and plinths in an exhibition. Visitors will be invited to handle and read the work. Each registered zine-maker will have a number that will be displayed next to their work, on the floor sheet, and (optional) on their person.
A floor sheet listing artist information, will be created live by the zine-makers in a shared google document.
Zine-makers that are present will wear their number and can trade or sell in the gallery or in the public areas of the arcade.
There will be seating (no tables) in the gallery for people to sell or trade. But because there is only limited seating in the gallery the majority of trading and selling might have to happen in the public areas of the arcade where additional seating is available. There is no fixed/assigned seating for zine presenters, except for those requiring it for accessibility.

Selling or Trading
Selling or trading your work is optional. The main aim of the event is to showcase work. One copy of each zine or artist book can be displayed in the gallery, additional copies for selling/trading should be kept on your person. For this reason it might be a good idea to bring a box or backpack.
If you are selling your work through The Little Machine, additional copies will be stored behind the desk. Please provide clear sale information and bank details so monies can be transferred after the event, please note The Little Machine will take 10% for admin costs on any sales. There is no wifi, digital transactions should happen via your personal mobile network. Presenters may prefer cash, so bringing cash is recommended. There is an ATM in Adelaide Arcade, 2 minutes away.
Participating in person
Please arrive at 11am to register, sign the floor sheet, and set up your work.
You will be allocated a number. Each of your zines or artist books should be shelved or placed with your number on the provided spaces in the gallery. The gallery will have shelves at various heights and plinths. There are (limited) display cases available, to show work that cannot be handled – if you want to make use of this please let us know as soon possible.To ensure your work does not get lost attach it to the wall/plinth with the provided paperclip and wire.
There will be a digital floor sheet that visitors access via QR-code, so they can look up more information about the works.
After installing your work, scan the QR-code on your phone and add your information to the floor sheet. There will be a computer available to add your details, and The Little Machine team can also assist.
If you want to sell/trade you should wear or display your number on your person so people can find you to talk about your work.
Late arrival (after 12pm)
Please announce yourself to Eleen Deprez or Michael Newall (The Little Machine directors). We will provide you with a number and help with the installation of your work.
Exhibition
We would very much like to display your work for a short two-week exhibition. Please leave one copy of your work in the gallery for exhibition, if you would like The Little Machine to sell your work please provide clear pricing information and leave additional copies at the desk. After the fair, The Little Machine will rearrange the display for public viewing during our regular opening hours (Wednesday – Saturday 1-5pm). If you do not want to participate in the exhibition, please let us know and make sure to remove all your work at the end of the fair on Saturday 12th. Your work can be collected after the exhibition on Saturday 26th at the closing event.
Closing event
On Saturday 26 September (the last day of the exhibition) we are hosting an open mic, everyone is welcome to read from their work!
Who
Everyone who makes zines and/or artist books is welcome to participate. Please note we will only display zines and artist books. Stickers, prints, or merchandise cannot be displayed. Zines or artist books that are deemed inappropriate will be removed by The Little Machine team.
Getting There
You can enter Regent Arcade from Rundle Mall or Grenfell street. There are bicycle rails at the Arcade entrance on Grenfell street and on Rundle Mall. The closest bus stops are: Stop T1 Grenfell Street South Side and Stop G2 Grenfell Street North Side. There are multiple car parks close to us: Upark on Wyatt Street, Secure Parking on Grenfell Street, and Wilson Parking on North terrace.
Access
The gallery and regent Arcade have step free access, and all door openings are wider than 1m20. There will be limited seating available in the gallery but there is additional public seating available in the arcade. Unfortunately we do not have capacity to provide a quiet space. Please be aware that on the day the gallery might be crowded and noisy. There will be flash photography from 1pm to 2pm. If you have any access needs or questions, please let us know.
Photography
Sam Roberts will take photos of the event from 1pm to 2pm. Please note that Our photographer, Sam Roberts, might use flash. If you do not want to be photographed please let me or Sam know. There will be an optional sticker you can wear to indicate you do not want to be photographed.
After the event, photographs will be shared with all registered participants.
Cost / Fee
Participation in ZineGeist is free. If you would like The Little Machine to manage the sale of your zines we will charge 10% on cash or eftpos transactions. The donation of one copy of your zine for The Little Machine zine-library would be greatly appreciated.

FAQ
Is there a maximum number of participants?
No.
What is the registration deadline?
You can register at any time, there is no deadline: you can show up on the day with your zines and artist books.
Do I have to leave my work for the exhibition?
No, if you do not want your work included in the exhibition (16 September – 26 September) please ensure you collect your work at the end of the fair or provide The Little Machine directors clearly with instructions.
Can I present (and sell) things that are not zines or artist books at Zine Affair?
No, thank you.
Do I have to commit to being there for the whole day?
No, you and your zines and artist books can stay as long as you want.
Is this an event for all ages?
Viewer discretion is advised. Everybody is welcome, but some work might present adult content,
Is this event dog-friendly?
Yes, dogs are welcome, especially if they have made a zine or star in a zine.
Are there toilets?
No, there are no bathroom facilities in the gallery. The closest public bathrooms (all gender&accessible) are in Adelaide Arcade or Rundle Place foodcourt.
Can I bring snacks?
Only if you bring enough to share with everyone and ensure fingers are clean when handling zines and artist books.
