Linda Marie Walker
The book is about Aldo Iacobelliโs work, which is to say, about painting. But it is also about many other things beyond painting, โa thousand other thingsโ as the title suggests. In the book Walker writes about particular works, about exhibitions (some of which she curated), about writing itself. There are quotations from many writers. There is correspondence between Walker and Iacobelli. There are lists of works in Iacobelliโs various exhibitions. There is Iacobelliโs ragu recipe. There are reflections on the process of writing about painting and imagery, and the incommensurability of pictorial and textual modes of representation. There are profuse footnotes. There are insights into the process of curating Iacobelliโs work, and what curating can be. The book is illustrated with drawings and inscriptions: these are taken from Iacobelliโs sketchbooks, and date from the 1980s onwards, which is to say, from throughout his career as an artist, they are reproduced to size in the book.
