Reniere&Depla
Reniere&Depla is a Belgian artist duo composed of Paul Reniere and Martine Depla. Since 1995, they have worked exclusively under the joint name Reniere & Depla, deliberately erasing individual authorship. Their painting style has been described as post-photographic and neo-symbolic. In addition to their studio practice, they have curated exhibitions throughout Belgium and France. Their work is collected in four monographs and has been the subject of numerous critical texts. More about their practice can be found at www.reniere-depla.com.
In 2024, Reniere & Depla undertook a three-month residency in South Australia, developing a body of work titled Darkness Visible, in which they painted the Australian night sky. The works were exhibited at The Little Machine in Il me semble que la misère serait moins pénible au Soleil, alongside paintings by South Australian artists. The exhibition explored contrasting approaches to landscape, light, and darkness.
